Sandeman 40 Year-Old Tawny wins Tawny Port Trophy
The Sandeman 40 Year-Old Tawny Porto has just been singled out for special attention in the International Wine Challenge, the most prestigious of all international wine competitions and awarded the Tawny Port Trophy.
The competition was fierce in this category and the oldest tawny from the Sandeman Cellars garnered the trophy reserved for these special tawny ports, thanks to its complex flavours and intense bouquet of vanilla, oak and honey which are its hallmark.
According to Sogrape Vinhos, "the recognition of Sandeman 40 Year-Old Tawny in the International Wine Challenge, a competition notorious for its independence, is a source of pride, as well as proof of the quality and excellence which characterise the Sandeman brand," said Francisco Ferreira, CEO of Sogrape Vinhos.
These Tawny Ports have been carefully selected for extended periods of ageing in wooden casks. This, coupled with the use of smaller vessels, promotes more contact with the wood and results in a higher degree of oxidation and the improved evolution of aromas and flavours, thus contributing to its great elegance.
Sandeman 40 Year-Old Tawny is a rare wine and is a limited edition, specially created in 1999 to commemorate the entry of Sandeman in the new millennium. Leaving a tanginess of dried fruits, spices and nuts in the mouth, this award-winning wine is celebrated as the ideal port to accompany dessert or be enjoyed in the company of friends.
