The Wine
FERREIRA LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE (or L.B.V.) is a high-quality Porto which combines the unique characteristics of the year in which it is made with the practicality of being ready for drinking immediately or after some maturing in the bottle, depending on preference. L.B.V. Portos are wines from a single vintage and are bottled between the 4th and the 6th year thereafter.

Tasting Notes
FERREIRA LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE 2005 has a very intense, almost opaque colour. It has an intense and complex bouquet with prevalence of balmy notes of heather, resin and rockrose, ripe red fruit and a slight floral touch of basil. In the mouth it shows excellent harmony and complexity, a fine presence of the balmy aromas, firm tannins, well-balanced acidity and a long and greatly elegant finish.

Serving Suggestions
FERREIRA LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE 2005 may be served on its own but also goes magnificently with cheese, chocolate- or custard-rich desserts, fresh fruit and red fruit tarts.

Storing
FERREIRA LBV PORTO is presented in a black sealed bottle with a stopper-cork, allowing for good sealing in case it should be kept in store. The bottle should be kept horizontally at a constant temperature of between 16º C and 18º C. Bottled after maturation FERREIRA LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE 2005 is ready to drink and requires no decanting. However, after a few years it is likely to find natural sediments, in which case decanting is recommended.

Open Bottle Shelf Life
Once open, FERREIRA LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE 2005 should be drunk within a few days, so as to keep all its freshness. With the passing of time tasting notes alter and its initial freshness is lost.

Varieties
FERREIRA LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE 2005 was made from traditional red grapes of the Douro Region, especially Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca, all carefully selected at Ferreira’s exceptional estates in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior areas.

Winemaking
The grapes, which were hand-picked at an optimal maturing stage, were vinified at the Quinta do Seixo (Cima Corgo) and Quinta da Leda (Douro Superior) wineries, in accordance with traditional Porto methods. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats and presses, under temperature control, and it was stopped through the addition of grape alcohol. The resulting wines, naturally sweet and rich, were intense and full-bodied, with greatly concentrated bouquet.

Ageing
The wines selected for the FERREIRA LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORTO 2005 final blend were taken to the traditional lodges at V. N. Gaia where they were aged in ideal temperature and humidity conditions in oak wood casks. The gradual and balanced evolution of these wines was constantly monitored by the Ferreira oenology team who, after multiple tastings, prepared the final blend. It was bottled in its 4th year, without cold stabilisation, and therefore it is natural that it should develop a deposit with the passing of time.
