Varieties
The red vine varieties used in the making of GRÃO VASCO DÃO RED are those recommended for the Dão region: Jaen, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Pinheira, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz - grown by local producers in partnership with Sogrape Vinhos.
Winemaking
The grapes used in the making of GRÃO VASCO DÃO RED underwent stalk-removal and were then softly crushed. The grape mass was then led with the aid of gravity to temperature controlled, stainless steel vats with automatic pumping over. Fermentation lasted for about 5 days, during which time the wine underwent several pumping-over operations to enable the soft extraction of aromas and phenolic compounds. After this period, the wine was moved into storage vats and the masses were transferre to be pressed in pneumatic presses, so as to softly extract juice to add to the final blend.
Ageing and Storage
After malolactic fermentation GRÃO VASCO DÃO RED matured in stainless steel containers until bottling. This process was completed in stages so as to keep the blend’s freshness. The resulting wine underwent a period of maturation in bottle before being released on to the market. GRÃO VASCO DÃO RED will keep on developing for a further 2-3 years. The bottle should be kept horizontally in a dry and cool place, sheltered from light.
