HERDADE DO PESO is an Alentejo specialist brand. With an attractive and wide range that meets the expectations of consumers in the different segments, HERDADE DO PESO wines are exuberant and captivating, with flavours, bouquet and hues that recall life at its best, just like the region where they are born.
Throughout the years Sogrape has invested in the main Portuguese wine regions. Already present in the Dão, the Douro, and in the Vinho Verde region, the next step was the country’s wine region with the highest growth rates, the Alentejo.
The company therefore decided to lead a wider and long-term structuring project, for the purpose of which it purchased HERDADE DO PESO, in the Vidigueira area, in 1997. With a total area of 465 hectares, in which the vineyards currently take up more than 110 hectares (and expanding), the estate also has a large olive-tree grove and two wine centres for the production and maturing of HERDADE DO PESO wines.
This is how the first wine from the Alentejo, Vinha do Monte, saw the light of the day in 1991. Today it is a classic of the region.
HERDADE DO PESO has unique climatic conditions, helped by a weir covering about 20 hectares which, together with the soils and variety selection, favours fine maturations. The varieties planted result from a selection of red-grape varieties, chief among which are Aragonês, Trincadeira and Alfrocheiro.
