The Wine
VILA REGIA RESERVA is a classic and intense Douro red, with a marked character reflecting all the richness and quality of the region in the creation of the best blended wines.

Tasting Notes
VILA REGIA RESERVA RED 2006 has a bright red hue with violet hints. Its bouquet has a fine intensity and complexity, with ripe red fruit such as strawberry and plum prevailing, along with a cedar and tobacco balmy component and a slight menthol touch. Well-integrated, inconspicuous and fine-quality wood is also present. In the mouth ripe red fruits are again in evidence. It has a fine structure and balance, well-wrapped tannins, a fine acidity and a long and harmonious finish.

Serving Suggestions
VILA REGIA RESERVA RED 2006 is ideal with most meats, game and poultry, pasta and flavoured cheese.
Intended for early drinking, it does not require decanting. Ideal serving temperature: 14º C – 16º C.

Varieties
VILA REGIA RESERVA RED 2006 is a blended wine produced with selected grapes from recommended native red varieties – mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca – grown in the Douro Valley.

Winemaking
After soft stalk-removal and crushing the grapes were taken to stainless steel vats, where alcoholic fermentation with long macerations took place. Intense extractions using the existing maceration systems took place during this phase, as well as pumping over, with temperature control through cooling and/or heating. At the end, following extended maceration, the wine was put in vats, with that resulting from pressing being kept apart from the main yield.

Ageing and Storage
The wine was taken to Vila Nova de Gaia in the months of October/December where, after finishing fermentations, there followed maturation for a period of between one year and one year and a half in oak-wood hogsheads, some of which were new. The blend was then made from a selection from the numerous tasting sessions and analyses carried out during this time span. Prior to bottling this wine underwent a slight fining and filtration. It should be kept in a cool and dry place.
