VILA REGIA WHITE 2008 is a bright wine with greenish hues. Its bouquet is dominated by citruses, tropical fruit such as pine-apple and passion fruit, as well as by slight mineral notes. In the mouth it shows a fine acidity and again a strong presence of citruses and tropical fruits and it has an elegant and harmonious finish.
Serving Suggestions
VILA REGIA WHITEis ideal with light meals such as white meat, fish or sea-food dishes, salads, or simply as an aperitif. It should be served between 8º C and 10º C.
Varieties
VILA REGIA WHITE 2008 was made from grapes of Douro Region vine varieties, especially Malvasia Fina, Viosinho, Gouveio, Códega and Rabigato.
Winemaking
Selected from high-altitude areas, after soft stalk-removal the grapes were pressed, with the dripping must kept apart from that from the first pressing operation. There followed low-temperature decanting with oenological control. Once the required limpidity had been obtained a long alcoholic fermentation (approximately 20 days), induced by selected yeasts, took place at a controlled temperature of between 16º C and 18º C. At the end the wines were stored at low temperatures at Sogrape Vinhos’ Vila Real Winery, with the blends from each variety and each vineyard kept apart.
Ageing and Storage
During the period between alcoholic fermentation and the preparation of the final blend the wines were subjected to numerous tastings and analyses so as to enhance their quality. As a result of this work in February/March 2009 the information required for the preparation of the best final blend was obtained. After bend preparation the wine was taken to Avintes, Vila Nova de Gaia, where it was subjected to clarification and stabilisation treatment prior to being bottled. The bottle should be kept horizontally in a dry and cool place, sheltered from light.
