The first vineyards and the wine centre of what is now Finca Flichman were set up in 1873 at Barrancas, in the Maipú district of the province of Mendoza. In 1910 the estate was re-founded by the Flichman family, and wine-growing was further developed under the family’s drive and more specifically under that of a man of vision and pioneering views, Don Sami Flichman. It was then that the estate was given its present name, Finca Flichman. Sami was succeeded by his son who, after having studied oenology in France, applied the knowledge he had acquired in the production of quality wines. The production and marketing of quality wines got under way, chief among which “Caballero de la Cepa”, one of the most famous wines of Argentina. The Flichman family kept the business until 1983, when it was sold to an Argentine economic consortium. In 1998 SOGRAPE bought Finca Flichman and immediately implemented a strategy seeking to bring the estate’s wines to the forefront of the quality wine market, retaining a strong Argentine character but aimed at a global consumption. New vineyards were planted to that end. The wine centre was also extended as well as equipped with the most advanced production and vinification technology. Since then SOGRAPE has invested in the expansion of the vineyards, the implementation of new technologies and in training, so as to ensure that the quality of its products is a step forward for New World wines. Finca Flichman’s wines have been given excellent reviews by the most demanding tasters and have received several prizes at the most important international contests. |
